Havana, October 24, 2003 (www.cubanet.org) - The conscience prisoners of Agüica Penal Center in Matanzas Province, sent a request to the “Ibero-American Summit” to be held in Bolivia in November.

The civilized world today condemns the governmental repression in Cuba, added to the European and American diplomatic measures, we the political and conscience prisoners, request from the Latin-American community to exert pressure on the Cuban regime to obtain freedom or amnesty for 316 prisoners suffering unjust imprisonment for dissenting from the Cuban system.”

The clearer the world realizes that Cuba's freedom, democracy and prosperity depends on the support offered to political prisoners and dissidents, the bigger our opportunities for a peaceful transition to democracy.”

There are many international states and organizations that have openly projected themselves to frankly condemn such conduct, for which we are grateful. We wish other countries and organizations would cooperate with the United States and European Union governments in a campaign in favor of reestablishing all freedoms which had been stolen from the Cuban people.”

This document remains open to all persons or organizations wishing to join.”
