This theatrical group was in existence since 1951, the year when the famous Dramatization of the Passion of Jesús Christ was started, but it did not become legally established until 1956 when it was officially inaugurated with a dinner at Brage Yacht Club salons, where the one act play The Telegram, whose author was Elvira Curí was staged, with the performances of Marie Curí, Vivian Díaz and Marta Martínez. The Master of Ceremonies in that performance was Pedro Zervigón.

The founders of the Foundation, in the administrative sector were Zenaida Valdés, Reinaldo Curbelo, Julián Ortiz, Osvaldo Álvarez, Roberto Pérez, Rafael Becil, Aida García and others.

In the artistic sector we can name Julio Troya, Alejandro Asís, Henio Hernández, Enrique Ramos, Pedro Zervigón, Efrén del Castillo, Alberto Miralla, Efrén Besanilla, Ramón González Cuevas, Orlando Hernández, Bertilo Pérez Alpízar, Marie Curí, Ángeles Marina Fernández, Sonia Pérez, Sandra Gómez, Dinora Sardiñas and others.

The artistic direction of the group was the responsibility of Nena Acevedo, excellent actress and drama Professor at the University of Havana, having the headquarters for studies and rehearsals at the Catholic Cultural Hall (Parish Center) located in the corner of Martí and Trujillo Streets.

The Foundation staged more than 10 plays and helped with the presentation of other groups. It also promoted the performance at Brage Yacht Club salons of Manuel Benítez Carrasco, great poet and declaimer.

The Foundation’s actors participated in the artistic representation of the Day of the River, yearly performance sponsored by Güines Rotary Club held the last Sunday of April, starting in 1956.

It also had its plays staged at Güines hospitals and at the Municipal Jail, as well as participating in patriotic acts with recitals.

When the Communist system took power, Güines Theater Foundation dissolved when its members did not accept the demands of the local Communist chiefs that wanted to make a political vehicle out of the theatrical art, the majority of its members leaving to exile.
