Pedro Calvo Castellanos
He was born in Güines on November 17, 1847, Excellente student with high marks and achievements. He graduated as an Oral Surgeon (Dentist) from Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery, in Philadelphia and as a Medical Doctor in 1875 from the same university. Returned to Havana in 1877 where he revalidated his titles and practiced his profession, dedicated to the dissemination of the science of dental prosthesis, being a founding member of Havana Dental Society. In 1895 he had to emigrate to Mexico because he got involved in revolutionary activities in Cuba, and he also revalidated his titles there and practiced as an Oral Surgeon, participating in the Pan American Medical Congress. At the end of the Spanish soverignty in Cuba, he returned to the Island in 1899 and obtained by public entrance examination, the Chair of Dental Prosthesis and Dental Organ Diseases at the Dental School of Havana University. He belonged to several scientific institutions and left important works about topics related to his specialty. He died on December 7, 1927.
