Born in Güines in 1833. He studied medicine in Havana and Paris and belonged to the Havana Academy of Medical, Physics and Natural Sciences and because he expressed his liberal and separatist ideas in El Siglo (The Century) and El País (The Country), he was prosecuted and persecuted by the Spanish authorities, emigrating to the United States, where he actively collaborated with the patriots of Yara and the Little War and with Martí in the preparations of the ’95 war, dying in New Orleans in 1894 in these patriotic endeavors, after being “a tireless worker for independence.”
