Born in Güines coming from a prestigious family of teachers and professors of the Villa. He was a famous surgeon and doctor. He was Dean of “Freyre de Andrade Hospital” and other hospitals. His colleague Dr. Ricardo Núñez Portuondo, another renowned Cuban surgeon, said: “The hands of Dr. Silvano Herrera were priceless in surgeries of difficult execution and technique.”

In 1936, he was a Representative to the House for Havana Province together with his colleague from Güines Dr. Rafael Zervigón Castellanos (Fillo) and their untiring efforts to get for Güines a High School were successful.

His brother, Dr. Nicolás Herrera Mora, was Professor of the same for many years.

When the Communist system arrived in Cuba, him and his brothers resigned the high positions they held, refusing to serve under the tyrannical regime of Castro.
