Pedro N. Regalado García
Pedro Nolasco Regalado García was born in the Villa of Güines on January 31, 1908. He did his first letters in a neighborhood school, going thereafter to Saint Julian School, of La Salle Brothers. He went to Havana High School #1 for his middle education going then to Havana University, School of Law, where he graduated as an attorney. He was a man of a brilliant intellect and ample culture, a shrewd attorney, a journalist with an agile and accurate style, prolific writer with an easy, simple and impacting prose, a writer of everyday and true images, with a deep popular knowledge and above all, a complete Cuban and a deep rooted Güinero. For several years he was a member of the Judiciary, later on establishing his own private practice as an attorney, practicing his profession very successful for several years. He was counselor of Güines Chamber of Commerce for some years, as well as of the Certified Public Accountants Association and of Güines Bar Association. He was also a member of Güines Journalists Association. A man with great social conscience and civic duty, he was always working for Cuba and for Güines. On several opportunities he was President of Güines Civic Committee or Committee of 1000 as well as of Güines Lyceum and of Brage Yacht Club. Already in exile and initially residing in the New Jersey-New York area, he founded in 1972, together with other valuable Güineros who also resided in that area, Güines Fraternity 28th of January of New Jersey-New York, being Editor for several years of GÜINESCUBA magazine, published by such organization from 1972 until 1976. His journalistic and literary works, including prose and verse, were published in numerous magazines, newspapers, weeklies and other publications in Güines, in Havana and in exile. In Cuba he was Editor of Adelante (Forward) weekly magazine as well as the weekly Brújula (Compass). He published part of his literary production in his Mayabeque Collection, trio of books including Güines, la Villa de maravilla (Güines, the Marvelous Villa), Ripios bien ripios (Rags Real Rags) and Antologia de Poetas Güineros en el Exilio (Anthology of Güinero Poets in Exile). The useful life of this great Güinero was extinguished forever on January 27, 2003, in Miami, leaving a trail of achievements and triumphs that serve as example to those who remain trying to imitate, without attaining it, his transcendental work, of deep Güinero feelings and great social impact.
