Ada Taracido Gómez
Ada Lutgarda Antonia Taracido Gómez was born in Güines on April 26, 1912, in the house located on Havana Street, across the park and the parish church. She was one of the prominent personalities that improved and gave luster to Güines in the XX Century. A woman of deep faith, guide of young people, teacher, piano virtuoso, director of the Parish Choir and an effective agent of social, cultural and religious betterment of her native Villa. She founded Martí Academy besides working as a Music Teacher and Principal at Luz y Caballero Higher Primary School, holding that office until her departure from Cuba in 1962. She was also a professor in Our Lady of Charity and Saint Joseph of the Mountain Schools and lectured on high school subjects at Saint Julian School. She married Armando de Armas Torréns on February 2, 1940 and had no children. Upon the arrival of the Communist system in 1959, Ada left for an uncertain exile where she did not give up. She continued with the same dynamism and energy in her work, establishing herself in the Northeast area of the United States in New York and New Jersey States, where she kept uniting all Güineros, reuniting her family and offering them the best of her. She was one of the founders of Confraternidad Güinera 28 de Enero de Nueva Jersey-Nueva York (Güines Fraternity 28th of January of New Jersey-New York) on October 8, 1972 and was the Editor for a period of time of its magazine GÜINESCUBA. She kept practicing her career as a teacher within the New York educational system, retiring in 1977 and going to live at Miami Beach where she passed away on February 25, 1999. As she herself said in her autobiographical article: I have enjoyed a life full of interesting motives before society and before the eyes of the Lord. I offer everything as homage to Cuba, my country. Translated by the staff of Círculo Güinero de Los Ángeles Continue to: Ignacio Arsenio Travieso Scull (Arsenio Rodríguez) |
