Güines' History

How difficult it is to review the history of Güines, with the limited resources available and the inflexible truth as a Damocles sword hanging upon the head of the writer! But we will try to be faithful to it, begging our readers’ indulgence for the errors that definitively will exist, and at the same time, requesting your cooperation in amending and expanding the historic truth, until the origins of our city clearly spring forth.

Why do we do it? Because those of us who lost our country together with our hometown, want to bring to the young people with Cuban roots and blood, born in foreign soil, a level of understanding and comprehension, without wasting any opportunity so they can remember the example and self-denial of those who created the country of their ancestors, so when the time of redemption comes, which is imminent, instead of being indifferent to its destiny, they will be ready to help, to rebuild it, and to preserve it.

It is our hope that this history of a piece of Cuba, will awaken in the hidden memories of our children and grandchildren born outside of it, the telluric and vital connection with Güines and Cuba, as well as the firm conviction that once free, they will come to know, the sacred soil bathed by the Mayabeque River.
